The SONY PlayStation One The biggest-selling CD-based console in the world, PlayStation, has just got a new makeover. The PSone is the video game system that delivers arcade standard games into your home. Custom-designed microprocessors and breakthrough internal architecture lend PSone immense speed and fantastic graphic processing power.
Not just for games, PlayStation can also play any standard audio CD through a TV set. With a great price tag and a massive software library, the Sony PlayStation has been redesigned for the new millennium. Although the PlayStation is no longer the fastest machine on the market, it does boast the broadest selection of software. Some of the hottest console games available today have been created for the PlayStation, including several modern-day video gaming classics .
The Sony PlayStation truly shines with 3D-rendered action games, such as Tomb Raider and Spider-Man. These and other 3D-based titles place players in the middle of elaborate gaming environments that take full advantage of the system's ability to render up to 360,000 polygons per second. The PlayStation also has the capability to display 16.8 million colours simultaneously and can support full-frame video playback at 30 frames per second. In addition to impressive graphics, the PlayStation also offers CD-quality sound. Each PlayStation disc has the capacity to store up to 650 MB of data--significantly more information than can be stored on cartridge-based games. As an added bonus, the PlayStation will even play your favourite music CDs (accompanied by a selection of cool graphics). Additionally, the PlayStation now comes packed with Sony's impressive dual shock controller, which allows players to feel every punch, kick and rumble during gameplay. The controller features dual-analogue thumb joysticks and round rubber grips for improved game control and comfort. Separate accessories that could enhance the PlayStation experience include an additional controller--allowing two-player action--and a memory card so players can save their progress in a game. --Brett Atwood
Features Since its debut in December 1994, PlayStation has achieved cumulative shipments of 73 million units by May 31, 2000 - making it the most popular game console in the world. By inheriting the same functions and continuing the success of the current console, 'PS ONE' will lead the PlayStation format into the new mobile network era. A special adapter cable enables the entire PlayStation platform family (PlayStation, 'PS ONE' & the PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system) to be connected to mobile phones - creating a massive new audience for network digital services, offering new forms of entertainment beyond traditional packaged content. This will bring about a new era of networked entertainment. With this mobile phone network connection, the user can download information, entertainment content and software programs in addition to exchanging data with other users, in a variety of ways. The design of 'PS ONE' is the result of radical size-reduction of the original PlayStation to position it for the mobile network era. While containing the same functions as the PlayStation game console, 'PS ONE' has been condensed to approximately 1/3rd its size, making it easy to carry it anywhere. When connected to the specially designed 'PS ONE' LCD monitor that is planned to be available by mid-next year, it is possible to take the world of PlayStation entertainment with you from room to room, house to house and out and about in a car.
