Islamabad: The Birth of a Capital
This book covers the activities of the administration of the then newly created country—Pakistan—for the selection of a new capital. It includes the planning, programming, and construction of community facilities, the first low-income houses, and administrative buildings. It covers the period from 1959 to 1963, and is based on about 500 reports issued during this period by the Athens Office and the local representatives of the Chief Consultant Dr C. A. Doxiadis. Islamabad’s planning and programming constitute a unique turning point in the history of town planning. Absolutely new ideas, compatible with the technological advances of our times, had been introduced. Today, Islamabad is the focus of international interest in the results of the application of these ideas.
